Fitting Out a Pandora for Racing: Part 1
On buying our second Pandora 700 "Owat" we were determined to fit out the boat for racing so that it satisfied as close as possible the following criteria: -
- It could be raced successfully with only two crew.
- The boat and sail handling to be almost entirely from the cockpit.
- Cockpit space to be maximised
- Sail control and fine adjustment to be maximised.
Halyards etc

Plate 1 shows how we lead all halyards/uphauls/downhauls etc. from the mast, aft to the coach-roof, were they could be easily handled from the cockpit.

Starboard Spinnaker Halyard
Jib Halyard
Both these halyards are lead aft to Jammer's, tensioned by a snubbing winch mounted on the coach roof close to the cockpit.
Spinnaker Boom Uphaul and Downhaul leads are led aft to a pair of small Jammer's only. (No snubbing winch required).

All are lead aft to Jammer's, again tensioned by a snubbing winch mounted on the coach roof close to the cockpit.
Winches
Plate 4 - Above click to enlarge
We utilise six winches
2 Coach roof-snubbing winches
(see above)
2 Normal Jib Sheet-Winches.
2 Spinnaker Sheet/Guy Winches (aft)
Plate 5 - Above click to enlarge
The Spinnaker sheet/guy winches need additional support, as the combing where they are positioned is not wide enough. We only really need to use these winches in medium to strong winds, but then they become invaluable.
Incidentally, the lazy-end spinnaker sheet jammer-cleats are superb! They never slip, are quick to secure and release, cheap and fit most rope size's, we use a similar system with the Jib winches.
